Snowfall, avalanche risk: trekkers urged to avoid mountain areas from Kattik 12 to 14

With a high risk of heavy snowfall, snowstorms and avalanches in high hill and mountain areas, the government has urged people not to trek or allow trekking on Kattik 12, 13 and 14. The Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Home Affairs issued the appeal in a notice on Tuesday.
Following the heightened risk, permits for trekking in mountain areas have been halted. Permits for trekking in restricted areas have also been suspended.
The department has also asked tourists currently on treks to reach safe locations in time. Fears of worsening weather have already forced some treks to be halted midway.
As the risk in high mountain areas will persist for three days, the department has urged tourists, trekking operators and all concerned to remain cautious.
