Prithvi and BP highways reopen for one-way traffic, dozens of roads still blocked nationwide

The flood- and landslide-blocked Prithvi and BP highways have reopened for one-way traffic. According to Nepal Police, the highways opened to one-way movement after landslide debris was cleared.

The BP Highway had been completely closed for four days due to erosion by the Roshi river and landslides at various points. The Department of Roads said it had intensified efforts to reopen roads blocked by the recent floods and landslides, and that preparations were underway to fully open the BP Highway by this evening. According to the Road Division Office, Bhaktapur, work on building a diversion at Chaukidanda in Kavre has been sped up, with preparations to allow vehicle movement from today.

Meanwhile, continuous rainfall, floods and landslides in various parts of the country have badly affected major highways and feeder roads. According to details released by Nepal Police, roads have been completely blocked by landslides at several locations.

Police said night-time vehicle movement has also been banned on some road sections in view of the risk.
