Landslide cleared at Rambazar on Besisahar-Chame road, full reopening to take a few more days

Traffic has resumed after a landslide that hit Rambazar in Chame, on the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame road, was cleared. However, the Department of Roads says it will take at least until Friday to fully reopen the entire road.

The road, which runs from Dumre in Tanahun through Besisahar in Lamjung to Chame, the district headquarters of Manang, is the main route connecting Manang to the rest of the country. Continuous rain from Asoj 8 to 11 triggered floods and landslides that blocked the road, cutting off Manang's road link.

According to the department, landslide clearance work is ongoing at various points from Timang to Koto. Mud and debris are being cleared at Bagarchhap. At Fapare Kshetra, a demand for compensation arose after local farmland had to be cut for the road; the department said the issue has been resolved through coordination with the municipality and district administration.

At Khotro, where the road was completely washed away, workers are cutting into the hillside from behind and building a retaining wall. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development said preparations are underway to allow vehicles to pass there by Wednesday evening. Near a cliff by Khotro, blasting is being prepared in coordination with the Nepal Army. In places where wooden bridges were swept away by floods, alternative routes are being built to allow vehicles to pass, the department said.
