Demand to enrol temporary teachers and staff in Social Security Fund

The Nepal Temporary Teachers and Employees Union has demanded that all teachers and staff working in temporary positions be immediately brought under the contribution-based Social Security Fund. The union says this is necessary to ensure continuity in their profession.
The union made its demands public at a press conference held in Kathmandu on Thursday. Relief, contract, temporary and early childhood development teachers, as well as school staff working in community schools, fall within the scope of this demand.
The union insists that, under labour law, they should receive leave, medical benefits, accident insurance and gratuity. It has also demanded fair treatment based on the principle of equal work.
Union chairperson Bishnu Khatri said the contribution and experience of those who have served for a long time must be recognised. He demanded that the law be amended to remove the age limit and allow them to take part in open competitions. He also warned of a strong protest movement if the demands are not addressed immediately.
