Darchula's Souka traders return home after seasonal trade in Taklakot

Traders from the Souka community in Byas Rural Municipality, Darchula, have returned to Chhangru and Tinkar villages after completing seasonal trade in Taklakot, Tibet.
They have carried on the ancestral practice of trading in Taklakot for generations. Yogesh Bohora, a trader from Chhangru, Byas-1, and a central member of the Nepal-China Himalayan Friendship Association, said the traders returned home after thick snow set in as the cold intensified in Taklakot.
The traders had reached Taklakot after the Tinkar pass border point opened in the first week of Asar. Traders from this area conduct business in Taklakot only during the summer season. The Tinkar border point, which connects to Taklakot, also falls within Byas Rural Municipality-1.
Under long-standing custom, members of the Souka community living in Chhangru and Tinkar villages are permitted entry into Taklakot.
