North Korea fires about 10 ballistic missiles toward the sea

North Korea fired short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea on Thursday as tensions with South Korea continued to escalate.
According to South Korea's military, about 10 missiles were launched from the eastern coastal city of Wonsan. The military said it has stepped up surveillance and is sharing information with the United States and Japan.
The launch came just days after Pyongyang threatened to resume propaganda broadcasts along the border and to deploy new weapons. North Korea has accused South Korean troops of repeatedly firing warning shots near the border.
South Korea has blamed the North for a landmine explosion on September 21, a charge Pyongyang denies involvement in. The North has not responded to a border talks proposal put forward by Seoul to avert a possible clash. In recent weeks, North Korea has also test-fired submarine-launched cruise missiles.
