Kamala bridge unfinished for 15 years, Dhanusha-Siraha residents suffer

The Kamala bridge on the Hulaki Highway connecting Dhanusha and Siraha has remained incomplete for 15 years.
Physical Infrastructure Minister Sunil Lamsal gave an update on the bridge on social media on Asoj 2. According to him, construction has reached its final stage and the bridge will be formally operational within two months. Prime Minister Balen Shah had also shared that post.
Only about 20 days remain before the deadline set by the minister expires, but the situation at the construction site does not match the claim. Locals, too, do not believe the government's assurance.
According to Krishna Kumar Mahato, director at the Hulaki Road Directorate, the bridge could become operational within Mangsir. He said the casting work on top of the three slabs would be completed by Kartik 20.
The bridge, being built by Pappu Construction and Lumbini Builders, had been washed away by the flood of Asar 17, 2078 BS. A budget of about Rs 250 million has been secured for the bridge this year.
