Delay in Russian uranium for Bangladesh's Rooppur plant sparks debate

Uranium sent by Russia for the second unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh has not arrived in Dhaka on schedule.

Some in Bangladesh have accused Pakistan of causing the delay by not granting the aircraft carrying the uranium permission to use its airspace. The issue has also become a subject of debate and criticism on social media in the country.

Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sajjad Haider said the matter relates to the process of permission for the air route and use of airspace. He said such matters require coordination between aviation authorities, which can change flight schedules. The question is also being raised as to why Islamabad took this decision at a time when relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan have recently improved.
