Lack of storage and Tihar expenses push Dang farmers to sell paddy below support price

Farmers in Dang are selling paddy below the price set by the government. They are selling at rates lower than those fixed by the Food Management and Trading Company.
The lack of proper storage space at home after harvesting paddy, along with the need to arrange money for Tihar expenses, has forced farmers to sell paddy cheaply. "Since it has also become difficult to arrange Tihar expenses, we are selling to village traders at the rate of 3,000 rupees per quintal," one farmer told Onlinekhabar.
According to Clickmandu, even though the government has set a support price for paddy, farmers in Dang are being forced to sell to traders at 600 rupees per quintal less. Farmers complain that they are not getting a fair price for the paddy they worked hard to produce all year.
The report notes that because of festival expenses and storage problems, farmers have not been able to delay selling their paddy.
