41-year-old Kipchoge sets course record at Melbourne Marathon

Two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya has set a new course record while winning the Melbourne Marathon in Australia at the age of 41.
Running on Sunday, he covered the 42.195-kilometre distance in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 10 seconds. It was the 17th win of his marathon career and his first marathon title since winning the Berlin Marathon in 2023.
Part of the race route ran through the track at Albert Park, which also hosts the Formula One car race, while the finish was inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Kipchoge said he is still able to compete with the newer generation of runners.
In the men's race, Australia's Thomas Do Canto finished second in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 35 seconds, with Rhys Edwards third. In the women's race, New Zealand's Camille French won the title in 2 hours, 28 minutes and 25 seconds, with Australia's Sinead Diver second and Ireland's Nicola Sheridan third.
Melbourne was the third marathon of Kipchoge's world tour. He has set a goal of running a marathon on all seven continents, including Antarctica, within two years.
