Box office: 'Gauthali' leads among nine Nepali films running in theatres

According to box office figures released by the Film Development Board on Monday, 'Gauthali' leads among the nine Nepali films currently running in theatres in terms of earnings.

The film, directed by Dr Kapil Rijal, has earned a total of about Rs 260.2 million from Saun 1 through Sunday, the Board said. Around 945,000 tickets of the film have been sold, according to the Board. The film will complete 100 days in theatres in about 12 days.

In recent times, however, its number of shows and audience turnout have declined. 'Pension Patta', directed by Maotse Gurung and released on Bhadau 26, is in second place with earnings of about Rs 98.9 million.

'Baah Ek Yoddha', released on Asoj 9, stands third with about Rs 30.5 million, while 'Behuli' is fourth with nearly Rs 30 million. 'Acharya', starring Nikhil Upreti and released alongside 'Baah Ek Yoddha', has earned about Rs 16.2 million, 'Jhinge Dau 2' about Rs 14.6 million, and 'Elephants in the Fog' about Rs 13.2 million.

Among the more recent releases, 'Chameliko Poi' has earned only about Rs 500,000, while 'Chungul', released last Friday, has earned about Rs 138,000.
