The sky has turned cloudy across the country due to Cyclone Arnab, formed in the Bay of Bengal, combined with the partial effect of the westerly wind.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rain or snowfall with thunder is likely today in many parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Heavy rain or snowfall is possible at one or two places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki.

The forecast says the sky will remain cloudy across the country tomorrow, with strong winds likely at some places in the Tarai areas of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini.

According to department spokesperson Bibhuti Pokharel, snowfall in the mountain region began Thursday evening and may continue through Saturday. She said the cyclone has weakened by the time it reaches Nepal, but the chance of rain, snowfall and moderate winds remains.

The department said Kathmandu's temperature will range from 13 to 15 degrees Celsius with a 40 percent chance of rain. Pokhara is expected to see 14 to 16 degrees Celsius, and Janakpur 20 to 22 degrees Celsius.

The Flood Forecasting Division has warned of risks of landslides, falling rocks and riverbank erosion along highways near the Narayani, Bagmati and Koshi river basins. The government has put all its agencies on high alert, and security personnel are raising awareness through loudspeaker announcements. The Department of Tourism has urged trekkers and mountaineers to check official forecasts before setting out.
