Dr Govinda KC extends ultimatum to government by two days

Senior physician Dr Govinda KC, who has long campaigned for reforms in medical education and the health sector, has extended by two more days the ultimatum he had given the government.

He had given the government a seven-day ultimatum on Kartik 2. In a press release, he said the extra time was being given because the Dashain public holidays fell within that period, limiting the government's chance to address his demands.

According to the release, the ultimatum has been issued in connection with a movement that includes a satyagraha. Dr KC's demands relate to reform in medical education and health services, accountability, good governance and social justice.

The release alleged that the government had not merely ignored these demands but had also moved against them. Dr KC warned that if the demands are not addressed even within the additional two days, he will be compelled to launch a satyagraha that includes a fast-unto-death, along with other tougher protest actions.
