Government bans sale of India-made Priyagold biscuits

The government has banned the sale and distribution in Nepal of all Priyagold-brand biscuits manufactured by India's Surya Food & Agro Limited. The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control said the biscuits were found unfit for human consumption and in violation of the Food Sanitation and Quality Act.
According to the department's public notice, tests by India's Food Safety and Standards Authority found that bran and feed meant for cattle had been used to make the biscuits. The brand's biscuits had already been banned for human consumption in India.
The department said the biscuits, which had also been imported into Nepal, are now banned from sale and consumption.
