The overhead pedestrian bridge under construction in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, will open for pedestrians within this week. According to the Road Division Office, Kathmandu, physical progress on the bridge has reached its final stage.

The office said it is preparing to open the bridge to the public within a few days. Office chief Subodh Devkota said the bridge is being readied so that pedestrians can use it within this week.

The bridge was built because of heavy vehicle traffic and dense pedestrian movement in the Babarmahal area. Once it opens, it is expected to make crossing the road safer and easier for pedestrians, and is also expected to help reduce road accidents.

The construction contract was signed on Falgun 21, 2082 BS, after which work began. According to the Road Division Office, the construction cost was set at about Rs 25.2 million. The office said the construction responsibility was given to Hetauda-based Hi-Tech Engineering Works Pvt. Ltd.
