The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) says it has made special preparations to keep power supply regular and reliable throughout the Tihar and Chhath festivals.

According to the authority, peak electricity demand on Laxmi Puja day is estimated to reach around 1,700 MW. Since production exceeds demand, the authority says there will be no power cuts during Tihar.

To prevent disruptions during the festivals, all three systems — generation, transmission and distribution — have been kept active.

A meeting of the senior management team, chaired by Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, discussed possible challenges and technical preparations. Instructions were given via a virtual meeting to the heads of the System Operation Department (LDC), the Grid Operation Department, and provincial division offices.

Shrestha directed that all equipment be mobilized so that power is not cut during the festivals. The authority said technical staff have been put on 24-hour standby and told to carry out immediate repairs in case of any disruption.

Instructions have also been given to intensify inspection and maintenance of transmission lines and distribution systems. Offices have also been told to regularly answer calls to the "No Light" service and address complaints immediately.
