BTS becomes first K-pop group to win Song of the Year at MTV VMAs

South Korean group BTS has become the first K-pop act to win Song of the Year at the American MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The group received the award for its song "Swim" at the ceremony held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 27.
The same song also won Best K-pop, while the group additionally took home the Best Group award. BTS won in all three categories in which it was nominated this year. This marks the group's fifth win in the Best Group category, having previously won it four consecutive times from 2019 to 2022.
In the Song of the Year category, BTS beat out songs by artists including Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean and Zara Larsson. In 2021, BTS became the first Korean act nominated in this category, for "Dynamite," but did not win at the time. Last year, Blackpink's Rosé won the award for "APT." with Bruno Mars.
The group — comprising Jin, V, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, Jungkook and RM — expressed gratitude to its fan base, ARMY, through its agency BIGHIT MUSIC.
