The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Pakistani authorities have reached a staff-level agreement on support of about $1.20 billion.

Based on Nepal Rastra Bank's dollar buying rate of Rs 154.55 fixed today, this amount is equivalent to around Rs 185 billion. The agreement requires approval from the Fund's executive board to take effect.

IMF negotiator Eva Petrova said Pakistani authorities have managed the economy well despite the impact of the Middle East conflict, adding that strict policies have helped maintain macroeconomic stability. According to the IMF, Pakistan's real GDP grew 4 percent in the first three quarters of fiscal year 2026, while the Fund projects full-year economic growth at 3.6 percent.

According to Petrova, inflation, which peaked in May, eased to around 10.3 percent in September. However, rising prices, high energy costs and supply disruptions continue to weigh on Pakistan's fragile economy.
