Ban on selling greasy substance used in worship under the name 'ghee'
The government has fully banned the production, storage and sale of greasy substances used for worship, homa, havan and lighting lamps under the name 'ghee'.
The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control issued a notice imposing this ban. The department has stopped the practice of selling inedible substances made to resemble edible ghee.
According to the department's notice, the labels of such greasy substances used in worship must state 'not for consumption'.
The department made this decision after finding that chemically mixed greasy substances were being sold under the name of ghee used for worship. Such substances can no longer be sold and distributed in the market as 'ghee'.
