China respects US decision to call AI 'Super Intelligence'

China has said it respects the US administration's decision to call artificial intelligence "Super Intelligence," or SI.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that it respects the terminology chosen by the United States.

President Donald Trump had announced on Tuesday that the term "Super Intelligence" would replace the old term in official US government communications and statements.

Artificial intelligence was a key agenda item at this week's summit between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington.

After the talks, Trump claimed on social media that President Xi also found the term "Super Intelligence" appropriate. He said the old name was weak and inaccurate, while the new one was more correct and significant.

China, however, neither confirmed nor denied the claim. A ministry spokesperson said that since the technology is continuously evolving, all parties should advance dialogue, exchange experience and build consensus.

After the summit, the two countries agreed to set up a separate communication mechanism to coordinate in this field and share information on emergencies.

Trump has repeatedly dismissed concerns that artificial intelligence poses serious risks to humanity, while President Xi has maintained that its development must remain under human control and responsible use.
