Electricity demand on Laxmi Puja evening estimated to reach 1,700 MW

The Nepal Electricity Authority has estimated that peak electricity demand this evening, on the occasion of Laxmi Puja during Tihar, will reach around 1,700 MW.
Laxmi Puja is the day of the highest electricity consumption during Tihar, the festival of lights. Since it is customary to light up homes, shops, and streets across the country on this day, electricity demand remains high in the evening.
According to the authority, this year's peak demand on Laxmi Puja evening will be met entirely by domestic production. The authority has said it has made management preparations to ensure smooth supply during periods of high demand.
Major cities and markets across the country, including Kathmandu Valley, have been decorated with twinkling lights for Tihar.
