362-year-old Malla-era Ashtamatrika dance concludes in Patan

The Malla-era Ashtamatrika dance (Ga Pyakha) has concluded in Patan, Lalitpur. The dance is performed with traditional tantric rituals and religious devotion.

The tradition of this dance is 362 years old. The dance carries religious, historical and cultural significance.

Performed every year since the Malla period, the dance was again held this year in keeping with tradition.

During Dasain, various places in the Kathmandu Valley have a custom of holding Malla-era jatras and dances, with the Ashtamatrika dance being one of them.
