MP Khagendra Sunar audio row: RSP launches probe, Sunar claims clip is AI-generated

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has begun an investigation through its Central Disciplinary Committee into a controversial audio clip linked to MP Khagendra Sunar.
The party took the step after the clip, in which a man is alleged to use abusive language and threaten a woman, went public on Monday. RSP Secretary General Bipin Kumar Acharya issued a statement on Tuesday.
The statement said Sunar has been barred from taking part in formal programs in his capacity as an MP until the investigation is concluded.
Committee vice-chief Harichandra Bhattarai said evidence collection has begun and that efforts are under way to speak with both Sunar and the woman involved. He said no formal complaint has been filed so far.
Chief Whip Kabindra Burlakoti said the party would extend necessary cooperation if state bodies investigate the matter. Whip Prakash Chandra Pariyar made clear that the party would not defend Sunar if the audio is confirmed to be his.
Sunar, MP from Banke constituency No. 3, posted a video on Facebook claiming the audio was generated using AI technology. He alleged he was being targeted after raising questions about corruption within the police.
He said he was ready to cooperate with investigations by the party and the government. Following the party's directive, Sunar left a survey program in Dang and returned. There has been no official confirmation yet on whether the audio is genuinely his.
