The CPN (UML) has begun preparations for its national workers' convention, to be held in Kathmandu on Mangsir 2 and 3. The first preparatory meeting was held on Tuesday.
Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta attended as chief guest, and the meeting was chaired by Organization Department chief Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal. Secretary and Bagmati Province in-charge Mahesh Basnet, along with leaders of Kathmandu Valley committees and sister organizations, also took part.
The party's first Standing Committee meeting under Chairman KP Sharma Oli, held from Asoj 22 to 25, had decided to hold the convention.
Deputy General Secretary Bhatta said the convention would be held based on the party's policy, the documents it has passed, and the current political situation. According to Dhakal, the convention will be orientation-focused, starting at 11 a.m. on Mangsir 2 and running until evening the following day.
UML says about 3,164 people will take part in the convention. Of them, 346 will be the party's central members and 81 will come from central bodies. Fifty-five participants will come from the eight provincial committees, the India chapter and the Non-Resident Nepali forum. Office-bearers of provincial and district committees, chairs and vice-chairs of local-level committees, and elected representatives at all levels will also attend.
