After a serious security risk was found in the PHP web technology used worldwide, Nepal Rastra Bank has temporarily shut down its official website and related services. The central bank said notices will be issued via social media while the website remains down.
A problem that surfaced in PHP programming from Thursday has created the security risk. This has also affected Nepal's banking system.
More than 70 percent of the world's websites are built on the PHP programming language. Concern has grown in the cybersecurity sector after details of the serious flaw in it became public. It has been stated that hackers could exploit the flaw if it is not fixed.
It is because of this security risk that Nepal Rastra Bank has temporarily shut down its online services. While the services remain closed, the central bank's notices and updates will be provided through social media.
