Trump says Ukraine needs new president; UK backs Zelensky

After US President Donald Trump said Ukraine now needs a new president, Britain has openly voiced support for President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Trump accused Zelensky of failing to reach a deal to end the war with Russia. He suggested Ukraine bring in a new leader who could make a deal. Trump also blamed Ukraine for the rise in diesel prices in the United States.
Trump's remarks came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to sell diesel to the US, at a time when fuel prices are rising in America. Ukrainian and European officials have expressed dissatisfaction, saying the agreement would help Russia fund the cost of the war.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham spoke with Zelensky by phone and reiterated full solidarity. According to a statement issued by 10 Downing Street on Saturday, Burnham said the last 24 hours had been difficult for Ukraine. He said Britain's efforts to tighten sanctions on Russia would continue. The statement said the two leaders agreed to meet in person in the coming days to continue discussions.
