India's newly appointed ambassador to Nepal, Sudhakar Dalela, arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday to take up his post.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Embassy welcomed him at Tribhuvan International Airport. He arrived on an Air India flight and is set to begin his responsibilities at the embassy from Wednesday.

India had appointed him ambassador to Nepal in the last week of Asoj. According to the Indian Embassy, Dalela, who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1993, began his diplomatic career in Tel Aviv, Israel.

He has previously served at Indian missions in Brasilia, Chicago, Dhaka, Geneva, Thimphu and Washington D.C. From 2022 to 2025, he was India's ambassador to Bhutan. From 2009 to 2011, he also served as director at India's Prime Minister's Office.

Before coming to Nepal, he was secretary for economic relations at India's Ministry of External Affairs. India appointed Dalela after the completion of the term of previous ambassador Naveen Srivastava.

Dalela's arrival comes as preparations are under way for Prime Minister Balendra Shah's visit to India. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is also scheduled to visit Nepal soon to discuss preparations for that visit.
