Nepal Bank ex-chairman Adhikari, two others convicted of corruption, given jail terms and fines

The Special Court has found former Nepal Bank Limited chairman Chandra Bahadur Adhikari and two others guilty of corruption. The court has sentenced them to jail terms and fines. Adhikari was the chairman of the bank's board of directors.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed six separate cases against Adhikari. He has been fully convicted in two of these cases. He was partially convicted in two other cases and acquitted in the remaining two.

The cases were linked to allegations of demanding bribes while disbursing loans. According to one allegation, when Aakaladevi Traders of Tanahun sought a loan of 250 million rupees, a bribe equivalent to 2 percent of the loan amount — 5 million rupees — was demanded.

According to Nepal Live, this episode is related to a bribe of 7.4 million rupees. Nagarik has described it as a case linked to three loan episodes and numerous transactions.
