Police object to reports of pressure on IGP to resign, PCC meeting calls it 'baseless propaganda'

Nepal Police has objected to news reports and commentary suggesting that pressure is mounting on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Danbahadur Karki to resign.
In a statement issued by central police spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Abinarayan Kafle, the force urged media outlets and social media users not to follow unverified, misleading, baseless and self-interested information.
Police said legal action would be taken under prevailing law against those found to be deliberately spreading misleading information aimed at creating confusion about the organization's reputation, professionalism and work performance. The statement added that an investigation would be launched against those trying to drag the police organization into controversy to work against the government.
Meanwhile, a Policy Coordination Committee (PCC) meeting hastily convened by IGP Karki has concluded. The meeting, held at the Police Headquarters in Naxal from 3 pm Thursday, lasted about four hours.
The meeting focused on recent developments within the police organization and the leaking of investigation-related information. Discussions centered on the need to maintain unity within the police and for all police officers to stand united against attacks on the leadership. The meeting concluded that 'baseless propaganda' had been carried out against the IGP.
