Stampede at Kolkata Durga Puja pandal kills 19, injures 25

At least 19 people were killed in a stampede at the Chorebagan Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata, West Bengal, India, on Saturday evening. Twenty-five others were injured in the incident.
According to Kolkata Police, many people had taken shelter inside the pandal to avoid rain that began falling on Saturday evening. The resulting overcrowding inside the pandal led to the stampede.
The incident occurred while the pandal was crowded with devotees who had come to view the Durga Puja celebrations. It took place on the days of Maha Sashti and Maha Saptami.
The injured are undergoing treatment. Detailed information about the dead and injured has not yet been made public.
