Highway hotels told to display price lists and issue bills; 26 hotels monitored

The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has directed hotels, restaurants and teashops along and around highways to display price lists and compulsorily issue a bill to every customer. Bills or invoices must be issued showing the actual price of goods and services sold.
It has been stated that strict action will be taken against both drivers and operators if hotels and restaurants in highway areas where public passenger vehicles stop are found serving unhygienic food or charging excessive prices.
The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has also issued strict directives to highway hotels and restaurants to maintain food hygiene during festivals including Dashain, Tihar and Chhath. The department has said action will be taken against those selling substandard food.
The department has monitored an additional 26 hotels and restaurants in the Dhading and Chitwan sections. None of the monitored hotels fell into the 'excellent' category, while 12 were given yellow stickers.
