Prices of goats brought from Mustang to Baglung market for Dasain have risen, but demand has not declined.

Traders say business remains good despite the higher prices, due to the tradition of carrying goat meat as gifts and eating goat meat during Dasain.

According to trader Tenzing Tarke Tamang, who walked around 25 days through Dolpa and Mustang to reach Baglung, the price of selected (rojja) goats has reached around Rs 45,000 to 50,000.

He brought 200 goats this time, sending half to Baglung and half to Pokhara. He said goats not sold in Baglung are also taken on to Pokhara, the main market.

Tamang said the price of goats at the shed is around Rs 37,000. He has been bringing goats from Dolpa and Mustang to sell in Baglung and Pokhara during Dasain for the past three years.

In Baglung, goat meat has reached around Rs 2,200 per kg. About 13,800 sheep and goats have been exported from Mustang for Dasain this year.
