Goat meat price hits Rs 2,000 per kg in Kathmandu valley this Dashain, farmers say no fair price

Goat meat has become much more expensive in Kathmandu valley this Dashain compared to last year. Consumers are paying up to Rs 2,000 per kilogram to buy meat.

Last Dashain, goat meat sold for Rs 1,300 to Rs 1,400 per kilogram. This year the price has risen to around Rs 2,000.

Meat consumer Amrit Tiwari said he bought live goats at Rs 900 to Rs 1,000 per kilogram and dressed meat at Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,000 per kilogram.

Even as consumers pay steep prices, farmers who raise goats say they are not getting a fair price.
