Khotang youths offer free transport to take daughters home for Dashain-Tihar

A group of youths in Khotang will provide free transport service during Dashain and Tihar for married women ("cheli") who are unable to visit their maternal homes due to financial hardship or lack of transport.

The group has named the initiative the 'Dashain-Tihar, Gift for Cheli Campaign 2083'. The campaign aims to take women to their maternal homes and send them back to their marital homes after the festivals.

According to coordinator Sanjay Kumar Rai, the service will run in two phases: from Kartik 3 to 6 for Dashain, and from Kartik 24 to 26 for Tihar. Women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities will receive special priority, though men will also be served if needed.

So far, 35 youths have registered to take part in the campaign. The group has been running such a campaign for three consecutive years.
