Exports top Rs 100 billion for first time in first quarter, trade deficit exceeds Rs 500 billion

Nepal's export trade has crossed the Rs 100 billion mark for the first time in history in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2083/84. According to the Department of Customs, exports from Shrawan to Asoj surpassed Rs 114 billion, a 57.03 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Imports also rose by 38 percent during the same period. Total foreign trade over the three months stood at Rs 761.07 billion, with overall foreign trade growing by more than 40 percent.
Despite the notable rise in exports, the larger size of imports has pushed the trade deficit beyond Rs 500 billion.
