Congress concludes conspiracy against party leadership, vows strong protest

Nepali Congress has decided to mount a strong protest against what it says is a conspiracy to create confusion about the party's leadership and the party's legitimacy. A meeting of office-bearers held at the party office in Sanepa on Thursday concluded that attempts were being made, through state-protected individuals, to create confusion and conspiracy against the party and its leadership.
The meeting also concluded that the government was trying to create a political distraction by spreading rumors about the arrest of party president Gagan Kumar Thapa. The meeting raised a demand for an investigation into Kumar Ben, political advisor to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, saying he was directly linked to the Enam Sapkota episode. A decision was also made to step up political dialogue in order to strengthen the opposition front.
Congress said it would counter the conspiracy through parliament and the streets. It stated that no matter what kind of investigation the state wants to conduct, Congress will not back down, and that the truth about the allegations against the party will be brought before the general public.
General Secretary Pradeep Paudel accused the government of spreading rumors about party president Thapa to cover up its own mistakes and weaknesses, saying Congress would not be intimidated by threats.
