Fear of fresh floods keeps domestic tourists away from Sauraha this Dashain

Chitwan's major tourist destination Sauraha has seen fewer domestic tourists this Dashain.

The blockage on the main highway caused by flooding in the Bhotekoshi and Budhigandaki rivers has already been cleared. However, fear of possible further disruption to travel has discouraged domestic tourists from coming to Sauraha.

The flood that struck the Bhotekoshi on Bhadau 10 had caused extensive damage. The disruption to the road network that followed appears to have affected the number of domestic tourists travelling during the Dashain holidays.

Last year too, tourism in Sauraha was affected during Dashain due to the Gen Z movement. For two consecutive years now, domestic tourist numbers during the Dashain season have fallen short of expectations.

The Dashain holiday is considered a key period for domestic tourist arrivals for Sauraha's hotel and tourism businesses.
