Lalitpur's Sagarmatha Swimming Club took the lead on the first day of the Nabil Bank 3rd Nepalgunj International Swimming Championship, which began in Nepalgunj, Banke, on Saturday, by winning 24 gold medals.

Chief referee Bishnu Khadka Chhetri said 40 events — 38 individual and 2 relay — were completed on the first day. India's Elite Swimming Academy of New Delhi stood second with 10 golds.

Lalitpur's Rato Bangala School and Kathmandu's MPJ Canadian School shared third place, each winning two golds. Girls' College and Shikha Academy, both from Lucknow, India, were placed fourth.

The two-day competition features 80 events across six disciplines: freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, relay and individual medley. Swimmers are competing in age groups from under-8 to under-17, as well as an open category for those above 17.

The Nepalgunj Swimming Club is organizing the competition with technical support from the Swimming Association of Nepal. Prashant Bista, chief of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, inaugurated the competition on Saturday.
