Crackdown at Jamunaha checkpoint cuts Rupaidiha shoppers, boosts activity in Nepalgunj

After a crackdown at the Jamunaha checkpoint in Nepalgunj, the crowd of Nepali shoppers heading to the Indian border market of Rupaidiha for Dasain shopping has thinned this time.
As the major festivals of Dasain and Tihar approach, a significant number of people had previously been crossing over to shop in the Indian border market. Following the crackdown at the checkpoint, however, the number of shoppers crossing the border has dropped.
With fewer shoppers going across the border, activity in the domestic market has increased, as more shoppers now come to Nepalgunj's market for Dasain shopping.
Business areas in Nepalgunj are seeing increased shopping activity during this festive season.
