Trump signs order allowing sanctions and tariff exemptions on Russian energy

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday allowing exemptions from sanctions and tariffs targeting revenue from Russia's energy sector.

Through this executive order, Trump has paused sanctions against Russia that he himself had announced.

President Trump has informed the US Congress that suspending the sanctions is in the national interest of the United States.

Various sanctions have been imposed on Russian banks, businesses and political figures since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began.
