Today is Kojagrat Purnima, Bada Dashain ends with Mahalaxmi puja
The Durga Paksha, or Bada Dashain, celebrated grandly by Nepalis, concludes today. On Kojagrat Purnima, the full moon day of Asoj Shukla, devotees worship Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and stay awake through the night. This marks the end of this year's Dashain.
Today is Sunday, Kartik 8, 2083 BS, corresponding to October 25, 2026. The practice of receiving tika and jamara, which began on Vijaya Dashami (the tenth day of Asoj Shukla), ends on Kojagrat Purnima.
This evening, Mahalaxmi, considered a form of Durga, is worshipped. Devotees traditionally stay up all night in vigil, worshipping the goddess to seek wealth and prosperity.
As this is the final day of Dashain, visits to distant relatives to receive tika also conclude today. With the tika, jamara, and family visits of Dashain complete, the festival of Durga Paksha comes to a full close with today's Mahalaxmi puja.
