Democrats dominate US Congress, Trump accepts results

The Democratic Party has secured a majority in the US Senate, the upper house, in the midterm elections.
President Donald Trump has acknowledged that control of the House of Representatives has also gone to the Democrats. In the voting held on November 3, Republican candidates lost even in states where the party had a strong hold.
Accepting the results, Trump said he would work together with the Democrats and seek consensus. He said the defeat should not be seen as a vote against his term in office.
Voters' economic dissatisfaction is said to have played a role in the outcome. It now appears that it will be difficult for Trump to get his laws and policies passed through Congress during the remaining two years of his second term.
