Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced that waste will not be collected in the Valley on Kattik 24 and 25 because of Tihar. Final disposal of waste collected from the Valley will be halted as work stops at the Banchare Danda waste management site on those two days.

According to Sarita Rai, chief of the Metropolis's Environment Management Department, work at Banchare Danda will stop because of the Tihar holiday. She said waste management will not be possible for two days since staff working there will also be on leave.

Banchare Danda is the final disposal site for waste from Kathmandu Valley. The Metropolis said that with work stalled there, management of waste collected from across the Valley will also be affected.

According to the Metropolis, waste management work will resume regularly from Kattik 26 after the two-day disruption. The Metropolis has urged residents not to dump waste from homes, shops and public places haphazardly on the streets during the period when collection is suspended.
