Malaysia rejects Nepal's proposal, labour migration unofficially halted

The Malaysian government has rejected Nepal's proposal to allow all licensed manpower companies to send Nepali workers. Malaysia sent a letter on this matter to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.
Malaysia had been trying to set up a mechanism to take workers only through 25 specific manpower companies. Nepal had opposed this, proposing instead that all licensed companies be allowed to send workers.
With the two countries failing to reach agreement on the issue, Nepali workers going to Malaysia has been unofficially halted. About 500,000 Nepalis are currently working in Malaysia.
This matter is important for workers preparing to go to Malaysia for employment. Bizmandu has reported that efforts are underway to reopen the Malaysian labour market.
