US midterms: Democratic Party wins majority in both chambers of Congress

In the US midterm elections, the main opposition Democratic Party has secured a majority in both chambers of Congress. President Donald Trump's Republican Party has lost its majority in both houses. The Democratic Party will take control of both chambers from January.
Candidates from women, Black, Indigenous, Latino, Muslim and sexual minority communities have achieved historic wins in the election.
Vice President JD Vance, writing a lengthy post on the social media platform X, said the main reason for the Republican Party's defeat was the war with Iran. Responding afterward, President Trump said Iran could not be allowed to build nuclear weapons. Despite losing the majority, Trump's stance on the Iran war remains unchanged.
Following the election defeat, Trump is facing pressure from within his own party to change policy and his team. One adviser said, "If Trump keeps doing the same thing for the next two years, we will lose even more badly in the next election."
