More than 200,000 people remain without electricity in Ukraine's central Dnipropetrovsk region after Russian strikes, local authorities said on Friday.

According to the Ukrainian air force, Russia struck several regions overnight, including Dnipropetrovsk, with ballistic missiles and drones. The attack caused widespread disruption to power supply in the city of Dnipro. Russia has targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure throughout the war.

Russia's defence ministry, meanwhile, claimed its air defence system shot down more than 1,000 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory overnight.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelensky is due to make a state visit to Turkey on Saturday. According to Burhanettin Duran, communications director at the Turkish presidency, his meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul will cover the war, Black Sea security and bilateral cooperation. Turkey has proposed talks to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
