Canadian poet Anne Carson wins 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature

Canadian poet, essayist and translator Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Swedish Academy announced Carson's name for the prize on Thursday. The Academy said she was honoured for writing contemporary literature that engages in creative dialogue with classical tradition.

Carson is regarded as having brought a new style to literature by breaking down the boundaries between poetry, fiction and academic writing. Besides poetry, she is also active in essay writing and translation.

The Nobel Prize in Literature is one of the world's most prestigious literary honours, announced every year by the Swedish Academy.
