Nepal received $3.19 billion in climate finance over 8 years, loans more than double grants

Nepal has received about $3.19 billion in international climate finance in the eight years since the Paris Agreement. However, a study shows that within this amount, the share of loans is more than double the share of grants.
According to the study, 63 percent of the climate finance Nepal received came as concessional loans, while the share of grants was only 30 percent.
The data shows that even countries with low contributions to climate change are mostly receiving climate assistance as loans rather than grants. The study covers the eight-year period since the Paris Agreement.
The data was made public as preparations are underway for the COP31 summit to be held in Antalya, Turkey.
