Ujyalo Nepal Party chair Kulman Ghising and former energy minister Janardan Sharma "Prabhakar" have each publicly staked separate claims to credit for ending Nepal's load-shedding, via social media.

Extending greetings for Tihar, Nepal Sambat and Chhath on Sunday, chair Ghising recalled that before 2073 BS, even the festival of lights had to be celebrated in darkness. He said the country became free of load-shedding through public support and firm resolve.

According to him, electricity now reaches almost every household in the country, and Nepali electricity reaches as far as abroad. Ghising said he was now determined to focus on fighting corruption, poverty, malpractice, unemployment and injustice.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Ujyalo Nepal campaign, marked on Laxmi Puja day, former minister Sharma claimed that he was the one who freed the country from prolonged darkness.

Posting old interview clips, he recalled the end of 18-hour load-shedding. He said he resolved to make the country load-shedding-free the moment he took the oath as minister.

Sharma said the first point of the 37-point action plan brought within a week of taking office set the goal of zero-hour load-shedding for Kathmandu. He thanked all Nepalis and his own team for helping make the campaign a success.
