Colombia opens embassy for Israel in Jerusalem

Colombia formally opened its embassy for Israel in Jerusalem on Wednesday. With this, Colombia joins the small group of countries that have placed their embassy in the city, taking the side of Israeli sovereignty over it.
At the inauguration ceremony, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said the day was significant for both Israel and Jerusalem. He also signed the guest book at the Colombian embassy.
Colombia's new president, Abelardo de la Espriella, has adopted a new policy of supporting Israel. Most countries keep their embassy for Israel in Tel Aviv, holding the view that the final status of Jerusalem should be settled through resolution of the Israel-Palestine dispute.
